Pierre Moscovici, First président of the French Cour des comptes, was elected Chairman of the Panel of External Auditors at the 63rd Panel Session, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on November 20 and 21.
The Panel of External Auditors of the United Nations, the Specialized Agencies, and the International Atomic Energy Agency was established by the General Assembly Resolution in 1959 to further the coordination of external audit and to exchange information on audit methods and findings. The Panel, which this year brings together 12 supreme audit institutions (SAIs), contributes to improving the accountability, transparency and governance of the Secretariat and the agencies, funds and programs that compose the United Nations system.
Alongside the SAIs of Chile and China, the French Cour des comptes has also been a member of the United Nations Board of Auditors since July 2022, for a 6-year term.
The UN's audit portfolio is organized around four pillars of highly strategic importance:
- peacekeeping operations;
- development (in particular the United Nations Development Program, UNDP);
- human rights and actions in favor of refugees (in particular the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR);
- climate issues.
During his trip to New York, Pierre Moscovici met a number of key figures, including António Guterres, with whom he had a meeting.
Pierre Moscovici has invited all his Panel colleagues to Paris for the next Panel Session, which will take place on 9-10 December 2024.
