Following an initial publication in April 2020, which focused on the integration of legal immigrants and the exercise of the right to asylum, the Cour des comptes today publishes a report devoted to the policy of combating illegal immigration, and in particular the resources deployed and the results obtained in relation to the objectives set by the State. The Cour des comptes has analysed the three main aspects of this policy: border surveillance, the administrative management of illegal immigrants on national territory and the organisation of their return to their country of origin. It should be noted that this report was included in the Cour des comptes’s publication schedule several months before the bill was presented to the Council of Ministers and then to Parliament in February 2023, and was subject to review and feedback by the executive branch before the Immigration Act of December 2023.
